Monday, February 12, 2018, marks the launch of FamilyCompassWR.ca.
FamilyCompassWR.ca is the new go-to site for finding community-based services and supports for parents, youth and children in Waterloo Region.
The initial concept for the site emerged through the work of the Children and Youth Planning Table (CYPT), a community-wide partnership that includes service providers, researchers, planning bodies and funders serving children, youth and families in our community. We know that our region has a wide array of excellent services and resources for families in Waterloo Region, but we also know that finding and accessing these services can be difficult for families. We have often heard that families simply do not know where to start. As a Planning Table, we wanted to change that.
Two other important initiatives were underway at the same time and we knew that it would make the most sense for families if we collaborated to create a one-stop, central access point.
From this shared spirit of collaboration, the full concept of the website emerged.
FamilyCompassWR.ca has been in development for the past year, supported by members of the Children and Youth Planning Table, in partnership with the Special Needs Strategy Planning Table and Moving on Mental Health initiative.
This easy and interactive website provides a one-stop resource for locating the right service for children, youth and families in Waterloo Region.
The website offers three “doors” for site visitors:
Search for Services – self-search for local health, social and recreational services for children and youth
I Have a Concern – a tool to connect you to a local organization that can help address concerns with a child or youth
Resources for Parents – resources for parents to learn, find support and connect with other parents (links to Parenting Now)
Our goal from day one was to help families and youth more easily navigate and access the services in Waterloo Region. Check the site out and let us know what you think!
